Ten Digital Marketing Tips For Expanding Your Twitter Influence

The traffic on social media website Twitter has been growing exponentially. According to recent digital marketing statistics, Twitter attracts more than 14 million visitors from the United States alone. This has led to many leading digital marketing brands using Twitter as part of their online marketing campaigns.

If you wish to use Twitter for marketing your products/services, here are some tips to help you get more followers:

. Follow people back: The aim of Twitter is to build influence by conversing with people, rather than trying to increase your follower count. Hence, it is important for you to 'follow back' people who 'follow' you, so that you can send direct messages to them at later dates.

. Participate in conversations: Consider following interesting conversations, especially on trending topics, from which you could gain lots of insightful information. It is also important to reply to questions asked by other people and organisations, and retweet interesting tweets posted by them. . Increase your reach: Connect your Twitter profile to other social media channels, such as LinkedIn and Facebook. You can use these networks to distribute new digital marketing content, like your tweets, to users using these platforms.

. Install widgets: You can add dynamic digital marketing content to your corporate blog and/or website, by installing a widget, which will showcase your tweets, mentions, and/or other searchable content.

. Switch formats: Twitter is able to work with digital marketing content in other formats. Use Twitpic for photos and TwitVid for videos. For example, JKrums' photo of the US Airways airplane landing in the Hudson, was re-tweeted a lot.

. Improve your personality: When you begin conducting branding activities on Twitter, add some interesting details about your company. You could also add links to your corporate website, Facebook fan page and LinkedIn profile.

. Create sharable material: Develop digital marketing material which is easy for your followers to distribute. Add sharing tools to your content, so that users who find it engaging can retweet it to their friends. Tweetmeme is a useful tool for getting this done. A 'tweet count' displayed below a piece of content, acts like a movie rating, and attracts more readers.

. Check your reach: While it is very simple to note your follower count, this number does not give a true picture of your reach. Some tools to help you track your influence on Twitter are TweetDeck, HootSuite, Twitalyzer and Radian6.
