New Facebook Security Feature For Digital Marketing Experts

If you are a digital marketing professional who worries about their Facebook account being used by impostors for the wrong reasons, then here is some good news for you. Facebook has recently launched advanced security features that will make your Facebook account more secure. This HTTPS security feature of Facebook is being slowly introduced to users, and will be a part of the advanced security features section of the site.

Full Session Security

Previously, Facebook used HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) security only when users signed-in using their passwords. Digital marketing experts have always wanted full-session security to protect their accounts from being compromised while fans are interacting with the client. With the announcement of this new security feature, Facebook has enabled its massive amount of users to use encryption while communicating online. From now on, if a particular user or digital marketing professional turns on this feature, all their website activities will be encrypted.

The provision of full-session HTTPS on Facebook eliminates the possibility of potential attackers using tools like the Firefox plug-in 'Firesheep' to spy on communications over Wi-Fi networks. According to an official Facebook blog post, digital marketing professionals and other users should consider enabling this option, if they frequently access Facebook from public computers in coffee shops, airports or schools.

According to some digital marketing professionals, if a user chooses to use HTTPS, a few web pages may take longer to load as Facebook does not support certain third-party applications. Facebook has replied by saying that they will soon roll out options to support these applications in the coming weeks. According to an official blog post, they said "We hope to offer HTTPS as a default whenever you are using Facebook, sometime in the future".

When people from the digital marketing field asked Joe Sullivan, the Chief Security Officer of Facebook about the time frame for making HTTPS the default setting, he admitted that it would be, "an interesting technical challenge for the company" as each user has a unique Facebook page.

If you are a digital marketing professional who wishes to secure their Facebook account, sign-in with your password, and click on the 'Account' link in the top right corner of the page.

. Select 'Account Settings' and scroll down to 'Account Security'.

. Click on 'Change', and tick the box next to Secure Browsing.

You can also choose to receive an email whenever a log-in from a new computer or mobile phone is detected. This section also enables you to check all recent account activity, so revisit it periodically to learn if your account is being accessed without your knowledge.
