Incorporating Mobile Technology with Digital Marketing

Mobile marketing is big today! Below are some digital marketing brands that have made good use of mobile phones to enhance their digital marketing strategy:

Macy's: This high-end department store chain designed a multi-channel QR code programme, which included in-store signs displaying QR codes. On scanning the QR code with their smartphones, customers were shown a thirty second video featuring celebrity designers like Sean Combs and Tommy Hilfiger. According to the digital marketing specialists hired by Macy’s, this video was viewed more than 45,000 times, within a few weeks of the launch of their QR code campaign.

IBM: Around fifty years ago, Charles and Ray Eames developed an interactive museum exhibition for IBM, which they named, ‘Mathematica: A World of Numbers and Beyond’. Over the past year, IBM has been working to create an iPad application that celebrates the essence of Mathematica. According to Ben Edwards (VP, digital strategy and development), the app will be an ‘interactive reimagination’ of the former Mathematica, and will be available to subscribers for a fee.

Siemens: This technology company created a multi-channel digital marketing campaign for its markets in the United States and Europe. It used various digital marketing tactics such as QR codes, mobile banners, smartphone advertorials, sponsored apps and tablet ads, together with printed magazine ads. According to an announcement by the digital marketing company that handled its campaign, more than a million mobile impressions were measured in a month, with a click-through ratio of 0.5 percent.

IBM: The sales force of this technology company is evolving together with the technological products being launched by the company. IBM’s sales professionals now have to sell complex offerings to clients, which include a combination of hardware, software and services. Hence, the company is creating a tablet application, which will help their sales personnel access necessary digital marketing information, before and during a sales call.

Verizon Wireless: This wireless company has developed a National Football League app, which allows users to view live video from football matches. It also has a fantasy football tracker, news alerts and a feature that lets users track the Twitter accounts of their favourite teams. According to the company, this app will be used to keep their current customers engaged, as well as to get people with other smartphones to switch over to a Verizon smartphone. The company is offering two services: a free version and a paid version.
