Improving The Digital Marketing Effectiveness of Your Blog

A blog is an important digital marketing feature, which contributes to SEO, builds brands and increases sales. Many digital marketing professionals spend huge resources getting blog posts written for clients, only to later wonder why these blogs are not yielding the expected results. Of course, the key to deriving success from a blog is to use the right digital marketing tactics while writing the posts.

Below are some tips to help you get your blog on track:

. Write for your audience: Note that the people who read a client's blog may be wider than the client's actual target market. They may also include competitors, investors, suppliers and the general public. Hence, create content which is sure to meet the informational needs of a diverse audience.

. Optimise selected keywords: A good blog is one which supports the SEO strategy of the client. Aim to focus on at least one digital marketing keyword, in every post. Also ensure that blog posts are integrated with the client's website, and cross-linked to relevant internal pages and products.

. Formulate a plan: Prior to writing digital marketing content, it is important to develop a plan on how the blog content will help the client achieve their business goals. Many digital marketing experts recommend creating an editorial calendar with topics and keywords to focus on.

. Reduce promotional content: Posts with strong digital marketing content usually turns readers off, as it may seem like spam. Most blog readers visit blogs to read informational or entertaining articles, hence ensure that your posts are helpful and provide timely information.

. Be personal: Consider writing posts from a first-person perspective, so that your blog does not seem like a page of corporate marketing material. Use your blog to try and solve user's problems, or explain how the client's products can be used in new efficient ways.

. Curate content: A great way to generate content for your blog, while keeping users engaged, is to curate content from other sources. Some examples are news roundups, guest posts from market experts, customer testimonials, customer tips and so on. Of course, content curation does not mean stealing copyrighted content, so be careful what type of content you collect.

. Build an email list: Create a digital marketing database of people who read your blog, and email them whenever you post new content.
