Google Boost - Another Digital Marketing Offering From Google

Some leading experts in the online digital marketing community have termed Google's 'Boost' as 'paid search for the masses'. Google Boost is one of the major changes made by Google to its product mix over the last few years. It provides local businesses with greater visibility in AdWords results, without having to undergo a complicated set-up process, and constant management.

At first, Google Boost was limited to testing in a few cities like Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco, as Google refined their digital marketing product offering. This testing went on for many months, just like Google tested its Local Listing Ads, before discontinuing it. Only after Google was satisfied that Boost worked optimally, did they decide to launch it.

What is Google Boost?

Two of the main differences between Local Listing Ads and Google Boost are:

. Local Listing Ads had a flat-fee, while Google Boost digital marketing ads are performance based, meaning you pay only if searchers click on your ad.

. Local Listing Ads were structured to resemble another 7-pack listing, with the ad creative being limited to a URL and phone numbers. Google Boost ads allow companies to include ad creative, together with ratings and reviews, for their ad.

If a brand wants to set up a Google Boost ad, they will first have to claim their Google Places Page. The Google Boost ads can then be directly made from within their Google Places account.

Here are some rules to be followed while creating a digital marketing ad on Google Boost:

. The title of the digital marketing ad must be the Google Places name of the company, without exception.

. The ad copy must be within seventy characters.

. The destination URL can only link to the company's website, or the company's Google Places page.

. The search terms for which your digital marketing ad will be displayed depends on the categories, which the company selects for their Google Places Page profile.

. Google Boost ads will only be displayed for geo-designated queries, where both a key phrase and a location are mentioned. They will not be served for queries that Google predicts to be local in nature.

. Boost ads run on a minimum monthly budget of $50. Google will provide you with a broad estimate of how many clicks you will receive, for the funds you spend. If a digital marketing specialist wishes to spend more than the maximum suggested budget, they may choose the 'custom' option.

Many digital marketing experts have written columns on whether they think Google Boost will be a hit or a flop. Only time will tell if Google Boost is a development that will change the Internet landscape forever.
