Digital Marketing - Pull Vs Push

Digital marketing is a vast field, and includes Television, Internet, mobile many other forms of digital media used for marketing products or services. Digital marketing can be broadly classified into two main categories: Pull and Push. Both push and pull marketing strategies work well to achieve specific goals. In this article we will provide a basic overview of the differences between push and pull digital marketing strategies.

Pull digital marketing strategies involves the user doing a direct search to find the information that he or she requires. Some of the examples of Pull media are Web site/blogs and streaming media (audio and video). The main fact here is that the users pulls out the information according to his/her interests and requirements, and thus has a specific link (URL) to view the content. This Digital marketing strategy largely involves the active development of a highly visible brand so that customers to actively seek you out, because they believe you can fulfill their needs. Methods commonly used include media interviews, conference speaking, and content syndication.

In Push Digital marketing strategies, your target audience is more diffuse and not strictly defined by your actions. In other words, it involves the active engagement of a target market through advertising on relevant websites, email marketing etc... These digital marketing strategies focus primarily on brand promotion, and on relatively short term goals which involve specific events or time based campaigns. For example your company is offering customers a 30% discount on services for Christmas. In this case you are focusing on short term plans to boost you business or build goodwill in the market and would hence be implementing a push strategy. It is particularly helpful in situations where:

1. You are offering a new set of services.

2. You need to create a familiarity of your product online.

3. You need to actively engage people through networking.

4. You need a persuasive approach to woo the customers.

Push and Pull Digital marketing strategies should be used in synergy to attain optimum results which many businesses fail to do. If you are confused as to where to start, seeking the support of an experienced digital marketing agency can be of help.
