Digital Marketing - Signals From Google+ In Search Results

Recently, Google announced that results from Google Plus will now be found on Google. Many digital marketing professionals found this extremely interesting, because it will increase the importance of social media marketing and change the way SEO is done. A few months ago, the lines between search and social networking were clearly drawn, making work much easier for digital marketing professionals. However, easier needn't always be better. While blurring these lines is expected to be beneficial to searchers, it is expected to make things more complicated for digital marketing specialists.

According to Google, "If you're signed-in to your Google Account, your search results may start including posts shared publicly by people you're connected to on Google+". As search engine marketing advances, digital marketing pundits are expecting to see higher integration of signals from social media websites with regular search results. In fact, they believe that sometime in the future, social media signals will receive a stronger weighting than incoming links, in search engine algorithms.

This is because traditional content is created only by a very small percentage of web users, who also determine link quality. When search engines like Google begin to consider signals from social media sites, the base of people determining the popularity of a website link is sure to increase, thus ensuring higher relevancy on SERPs. For digital marketing professionals, this would mean more work trying to keep their fans engaged on social networking websites. This does not mean that content should be auto-generated, instead it means creating unique and interesting content.

For companies that can manage to keep their fans engaged, this presents a useful opportunity. The growing complexity of search engine optimisation will make it harder to game the search engines, resulting in the Internet becoming an interesting playing field. Of course, digital marketing professionals will have to work harder to find a way around the algorithms, and garner good results for their clients. Ultimately, they will have fewer competitors to reckon with.

This is because whenever search engines increase the complexity of their algorithm, a large number of digital marketing specialists decide to give up, and change their career to something more stable. For those individuals who genuinely want to contribute to the Internet community, this is good news, as they will have less spam to contend with.
