Google announces its entry in the E-book sector

From being a popular search and engine and providing digital marketing features, Google has not announced its entry in the e-book sector. It announced on May 5 that it will be selling e-books this summer to expand its existence in the e-commerce sector.

According to a company spokesman, who reported in the Wall Street Journal earlier, the search and digital marketing giant will begin the sale of e-books in late June.

Google is a web company that is already high in its popularity as a search engine. It offers marketers an opportunity of digital marketing as well. It has many digital marketing tools that marketers can benefit from. One recent digital marketing tool is the Remarketing feature that Google announced earlier this year. Having being successful in the digital marketing field, Google has not launched Google Edition. This allows consumers to buy e-books online through its book search service. These e-books are said to be available on a variety of web browsers so they can also be read on different mobile devices. Google is knows to have made its mark in digital marketing via mobile. Now it has extended its superiority of e-book reading on mobile devices too.

You may also call it another form of digital marketing when Google allows book retailers to sell the Google editions of the e-books on their web site as well. This attempt has put Google in direct competition with companies like Apple, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com. These companies have also attempted to sell mobiles that can be used for reading as well.

US revenues from the sales of e-books have grown after Kindle debuted. As said by the Association of American Publishers (AAP), the revenues from the sales of e-books have grown from a mere $10 million in 2007 to approximately $46 million in 2009. There is also a prediction by Forrester Research that these revenues are to hit their peak in 2010 as they may reach to $500 million.

In 2004, Google started its Google Book Library Project. They attempted to upload every book that was ever written and then place it in their library. But this received much criticism and was welcomed by lawsuits by publishers and copyright holders of books. The project was then scrapped after these circumstances. But Google did not back off completely, just then. This attempt at selling e-books is another step after their search engine and digital marketing success.
